About "Bird" Flu
Just when I start thinking that I might be learning how to write, I realize that compared to guys like Micheal Fumento, I'm just a belching, farting, bitching fool that happens to write my own free blog.
Here is part of what Mr. Fumento had to say about the so called "avian flu"...
Still, there are those of great influence who would have us think a pandemic is just around the corner. Reassuringly, their explanations are unscientific. One is that "we're overdue" for a pandemic. Google "avian flu" and "pandemic" and "overdue," and you'll get over 40,000 hits. "In the 20th century there were three pandemics, which means an average of one every 30 years," explained one health official to the New York Times. "The last one was in 1968, so it's 37 years. Just on the basis of evolution, of how things go, we're overdue."
Really? It was 39 years from the first pandemic to the second, but only 11 from the second to the third. Is that a pattern, or some white-jacketed yokel demonstrating his ability to do long division? On the other hand, if you knew that this yokel was director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Dr. Anthony Fauci, you might be justified in thinking we do have something to be worried about. Nevertheless, Fauci also said some foolish things about the SARS threat, and somehow we managed to survive that.
As to MY opinion of this predicted disaster, don't get me wrong here.
IF you're 100 years old, or IF you have tiny children, or IF you spend most of your life on public transportation, or IF you are otherwise hacking and coughing in poor health--go ahead and get yourself a flu shot. And for God's sake, please be careful with who (or whom or what) you allow yourself to be exposed to.
The rest of us smelly, stinky, mean old outspoken white protestant male Libertarian/Republican bastards like me should just continue smoking cigars, drinking fine Porto, and enjoying life in general because the flu pandemic is really a figment of the imagination of the media and a bunch of "junk scientists."
When and if the experts are shown to be wrong--which they probably will be, let's hold them accountable.
Next time...
OK???

"IF you're 100 years old" I just knew that you were gonna say that you should've been dead either 30, or 60 or 90 years depending on which of the "pandemics" killed you. When you look at what the very people that are all wound up about the "pandemic" say your odds are, you wonder what in the hell all the commotion is about. But then why should we worry about it at the rate the world is "warming up" we're all gonna be fried before the "avian flu" gets here.
I know you worry a lot about how hot the World is getting down there at St. Simons.
