My Letter To An AP Executive Editor

Dear Miss Carroll,

I'm fairly sure that you are aware of the ongoing disassembly of the stories told by Staff Sgt. Jimmy Massey about US Military atrocities in Iraq. It seems that the guy has pretty much been dismissed as a teller of untruths and fabrications.

The St. Louis Post Dispatch published their investigative report on November 5th. The Modesto Bee and the Sacramento Bee published editorials and/or articles this past weekend that corrected their earlier reporting and apologized to their readers for their errors and lack of background investigation.

All I've been able to find to date from the keyboards of the Associated Press is silence on this developing story. As a result, the smaller local newspapers and other media outlets that rely on the AP for copy (and that used AP copy recounting the original charges and statements made by Massey) have as yet failed to discuss the substantial turn the story has taken this month.

As an executive editor there at the Associated Press, you of all people should be interested in the AP updating this story, thereby preventing further damage to your organization's reputation.

The AP printed the original hysterical charges made my Massey and you owe it to your readers to continue to accurately and completely update the story no matter what the final outcome is.

We're all waiting, Miss Carroll.

Best Regards,

Virgil R. Rogers, III
St. Simons Island, Georgia
