You Heard It Here First--Concrete Floats (And Sinks)

An Injuneer's Perspective...


I'm sitting here watching video footage of the Levees in the upper/lower 9th Ward of New Orleans being "topped" by the waves as the storm surge moves upstream to Lake Pontchartrain.


I'm sorry, but any Civil Engineer (or an "Uncivil" Injuneer like me) knows that with those soils being saturated on both sides of the levees and the silly little footings under extension walls at the top getting soaked, everything's going to head toward the Mississippi River Delta ASAP.

Water weighs about 64 pounds per cubic FOOT, and those walls are taking a beating right now.

Then again, maybe Michael Moore's newly found God will intervene...
