My First Patent Application

"It's A Bouncing Baby Boy 'Thing-A-Majig' Mr. Rogers..."

I'm pleased to report that the past seven days has been a banner week here at the International Headquarters of Plastics Engineering Technologies A.K.A. The Turbo Pup Compound on the banks of the Mighty Tennessee River.

I've been a little mentally uneasy and distracted all week as I've had to fight off a malady which was trying to develop into a full blown cold or case of the Flu, but I managed to somehow wander through the process anyway and get the minimum paper work done and pushed out the door or on to the Internet.

Thus this weekend I guess I can with good conscience turn my attention back to my basement construction projects and possibly burning a giant pile of vegetative crap out in the back yard weather permitting.

Meanwhile, during dinner last night I received an E-mail from the lawyer's office with the first draft of the Patent Application I've been working on as the engineer of record for the past twelve weeks. With any luck we'll finish the paper work process this week and officially be "Patent Pending" so we can move the project into the Prototype Phase of product development.

I've never expected to become very rich working as an injuneer, but I have made a good living on and off from time to time in the process and the one thing I do pride myself in is that the work I do actually gets built...I design things which can be made and used by their owners in return for them paying for drawings and calculations.

Anybody in the engineering business knows how many people there are out there that do work which is impossible to build or fails miserably when produced.

Not ME, no WAY, no HOW...I will not be associated with crap quality work.

And the fact that our patent application will get submitted shortly and that the product will move forward toward being available on the consumer market is worth more than the value of any check I have cashed in the past or in the future.

I guess that I pursue injuneering more as an art than an a avocation or profession.

Broken English Better Than Know No English At All?

"Think So GI Joe....Me Nots "

Just Dammit, Ladies and Gentlemen.

I've outsmarted myself again apparently.

You see, I joined this thing you've probably heard of..."Groupon "...and bought a couple of things like half price  dinner coupons and such to use locally here recently with great success.

I don't do everything they do like half day Spa treatments or half price Hot Air Baloon  Rides but they threw out a coupon last week before Valentines Day for $40 worth of flowers or gifts with FTD for $20 cost.

I jumped on the deal figuring that I'd use it later this year for birthdays or whatever since I had already bought Pat's Valentines' Day flowers from Proflowers.com.

The only downside to Proflowers' product is that you have to put the arrangement together yourself after the flowers arrive in a box with a Vase and other crap you buy.

Historically FTD has the local member florist put everything together and delivers it to your door ready to go.

Therein is the only SINGLE advantage FTD's business model has today as I see it and if they are not careful, just like travel agents and buggy whip makers, based on my experience with them this week I'd say that FTD will be out of the flower delivery business before the end of the year 2011 because of the incompentence of their customer no-service system and the decline in their flower dealer network.

You see, I found out this morning that the local florist in my Mom's little town down in Alabama has dropped out of the FTD network...i.e. they've elected to stop paying the fee to FTD to be a member probably because the business generated using the formerly well recognized and regarded FTD brand is no longer worth the golden logo it's printed on.

Then after three days spent on and off trying to place an order and get sale prices and use the "Groupon" I finally managed to get through this morning and successfully negotiate their website, use the "Groupon" ID code, and hit the ORDER button.

Then I printed my confirmation page and put it in a file and went on to other things...like taking my mid-day nap.

Then not TWO HOURS later yet another lovely young woman which had apparently studied speaking English using cassette or eight track tapes played in a 1973 Chevy Vega or Ford Pinto with AudioVOX or Jensen 6x9 inch triaxal speakers called and woke me up and said something like this:

Lovely Lady on Phone: "Local florist say no live blooming flowers ready (the order was for a week and one half from now)...you OK they use cut flowers with live green plants in pot?"

Me: Whuuaaaaattt?

Lovely Lady On Phone: "You OK they...er...um...substitute cut life flowers for life blooming flower in arrangement?"

Me: "No Ma'am, just cancel the order because I don't have time to think about it right now."

So now I'm back to square one again, having spent $20 trying to save $20, and still probably owing another $20 to get something moving for my sister's birthday, and having spent going on THREE hours which I normally sell for somewhere between $50 and $85 per hour to clients.

If this keeps up I could probably BUY my own florist operation and deliver the flowers myself and SAVE MONEY in the process.

Is it just me?

UPDATE 2:30 PM

I went back to the FTD site to try to order something else and the stupid Groupon Code wouldn't work because they had cancelled my earlier order but not voided out the Groupon.

So I had to CALL GROUPON and explain everything to them and get them to issue me a refund on my Debit card for the original purchase.

Let me be clear here...I have no problem with GROUPON...BUT...

I'll never use FTD again except in an emergency like flowers for a Funeral, and I suggest that you do the same because their customer service is really custer non-service and their website is inane and customer non-support is feckeless and obtuse at best.

Gee...I don't have a NEGATIVE OPINION of FTD do I?

If You Have A Little Red Dot On Your Forehead

It Might Be From My Laser Gunsight...

Gosh Darn it all...ladies and gentlemen...

I've spent an hour on the phone this morning with "Customer No-Service" with FTD over a flower order to be delivered later this month using a "Groupon."

And just now with Capitol One over a misplaced Credit Card...

I think I was talking to some man named "Peggy" located in India.

They gave me a useless unintelligible answer on the FTD order and I finally managed to figure out how to use the discount code on line on my own, and just now Capitol One held me on the phone for ten minutes and then dropped the call while transferring me between "account service specialists."

All I can say is they are lucky I'm too old and tired to try to find them and come over and kick their stupid incompetent asses right now.

Give me a few minutes and a few more attempts at getting this stuff straightened out and I might work up a good head of steam and make the 11 PM news feed in your town.

Injuneering Pop Quiz

Keeping My head Warm Like A Serving of French Fries Under a Heat Lamp....

Tonight I'm going to wander around in the basement with a pair of wire cutters in my hands and try to finish installing the six recessed Can Lights and three or four outlets in the new Wee Pub A.K.A. "The Turbopup Bar and Grill."

I mentioned earlier that I had pulled the two new electrical service feeds into the basement through a new conduit run bolted to the wall in the carport from the breaker panel, and then Tuesday I drilled out all of the floor joists and pulled the wire up overhead out of the way.

Tonight I'm planning on finishing up the wiring to the Can Light Fixture bodies in the Bar ceiling  and anything else I can think of because...

I have two brand new unused TWENTY AMP BREAKER CIRCUITS!

(My bellybutton has been puckering and unpuckering for the past few days I'm so excited.)

For the laymen in the crowd and those of you that went to engineering school at Fatima Tech or LSU, let's review the design calculations:

Assuming 110 Volts AC as the input power source, a 20 Amp breaker can in theory handle 2200 Watts (2.2 KW) of load, but then reducing things by a 80% safety factor that's still 1760 Watts total...

or an amount equal to a little more than seventeen 100 watt light bulbs.

Since I'm only using six fixtures and the fixtures are rated at 65 Watts each, my lighting load is only 390 Watts.

And then I want to add two wall receptacles and a dedicated 110 VAC outlet for a recessed flat screen TV behind the Bar area, and thus I still have 1370 Watts of capacity to serve the receptacles with all of the lights turned on and Bing Crosby or Elvis playing on the faux wood grained enclosed eight track tape deck.  I also have an old turntable which might appear to play a few albums I still have in vinyl format.

Come to think of it I also have an old Victrola sitting under a layer of dust in the back corner of the basement so I may end up with an addition which is "standing room only" when it is virtually empty.

Things will be getting out of hand if they keep going like they are, and people in Egypt and Iraq probably envy the dirt I walk on these days, if they even have electricity or live in houses with basements and floor joists to drill holes into.

Excuse me for gloating I guess...but still...

Now...has anyone seen my wire nuts and electrical tape because it's time to get to work?

aHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH

i'M bUSY...

So now in addition to all of the other crap I have going on I learned last week that the St. Simons Island Rotary Club's "Red Hot Chili Cookoff" is March 5th...JUST TWO WEEKS FROM THIS COMING SATURDAY.

I'm abdicating the chef role this year to one of John's employee's husband who is also a member of the Glynn County Fire Department.

I hope to parlay that connection in a couple of ways into getting a few new awards this year possibly.

The "People's Choice" award  is easier because of the popularity of public institutions like the Glynn County Schools have been historically getting every year while delivering only mediocre chili so an association with the fire department could yield bonus points if played properly.

My idea is to modify our serving booth theme to make it look like a fire station with a portion of a fire truck sticking out front of the garage door bay.

Any way, in addition to all of the other stuff I'm working on to make a living, nowI have to finish the concept and detailed design drawings for this project and be ready to get down there to the Georgia Coast and help produce another 15 gallons of Chili on a Saturday morning with the proceeds of the event going to local Charities.

Wish us luck, and pray I have the strength to get all of this stuff done between now and then.

I Almost Forgot Valentine's Day?

NO, Not Really....

I forgot to mention earlier here on the blog this weekend's local Valentine's Day festivities.

I generally elect to miss the actual event in public by celebrating early every year.

It somehow has historically managed to piss me off when I try to go out on the actual day--Valentine's Day--only to be assaulted by the miss-behavior of the crowds of men which ignore their wives and girlfriends for the entire year and then try to make up for their malfeasance on a single day on the calendar handing out "stuffed bears" and "hoodie footie" outfits and of course the obligatory giagantically over-priced vase of dead or dieing flowers.

I do things a little differently here myself.

Flowers--a dozen roses--showed here up on Friday...bought and paid for weeks ago at a discount without paying more for shipping than the actual cost of the roses. ProFlowers.com if you are interested...

Then an excellent dinner was had at Copper Cellar  last night, following my command performance Saturday night in my kitchen cooking German Rouladen Beef and Spaetzle and Sour Kraut for dinner.

Did I mention the brunch I cooked for Pat and the Turbo Pup on Sunday morning featuring scrambled eggs and home made hash brown fries with country sausage?

And now this morning I'm making a couple dozen chocolate truffles from raw Ghirardelli Chocolate bars and packaged for distribution here at home and around town over the next couple of days.

At least all of you men out there should say hey to the one you love on Valentine's day...or preferably don't wait until then and show them by your actions how much you care each and every day instead of waiting until February 14th.

That said, I guess that that will be all...for now...

I'm Running Around...

...Like A Chicken With My Head Cut Off

Right now I'm so dang busy that I don't know whether to stand up or sit down or run out into the yard and tear my clothes off.

OK...maybe I'll keep my clothes on based on OSHA jobsite protection issues, but still...

I currently have more things to do on my plate IMMEDIATELY than I've had in probably 12 or 15 years, and in the process I have more projects started here at home than I can possibly do at one time.

Add to the backlog that the current weather forecast for relatively dry conditions with temperatures in the mid 60's for most of the next week places pressure on me to attempt to finish all of the yard chores which were left unfinished when it first turned frigid and started snowing in late November/early December and which has continued on and off through most of January.

Ignoring my injuneering business endeavors for a moment, I still have no less than a half dozen different things going on inside and outside the house in the "home improvement" category of my life.

Yesterday I pulled over 100 feet of 12/2 romex with ground conductor through some 1-1/2" plastic conduit from the breaker panel out in the carport, through a new hole I cut in the wall into the basement shop, and extended one run across the basement ceiling through the floor joists into the new "Wee Pub" A.K.A. "The Turbopup Bar And Grill" which has been under construction for the past couple of weeks now downstairs.

These two new 20 Amp 115 VAC electrical service feeds will substantially upgrade and update the existing early 1960's vintage ungrounded electrical service currently providing juice to most of the basement outlets and lights, and hopefully in the process keep me from losing another house to an electrical fire like I did on April 5th, 2001 in the northern Atlanta suburbs..

And speaking of burning,  yesterday I also tried to take advantage of my new Knox County Government issued "Burn permit" to start getting rid of the school bus sized heap of limbs and other combustible stuff I have piled in the corner of the back yard.  I started a little test fire after lunch time but let it burn out quickly because the wind was gusting on and off a little too hard to make me comfortable keeping things under control.

Hopefully the yard burn project is back on the program for today and or Tuesday if the wind will die down a little because I don't want to look at this giant pile of stuff for the next six months.  I also don't like standing in front of a fire when the ambient temperature is 100 deg F so it behooves me to get this stuff out of my way ASAP.

Meanwhile, regarding national and international news, I'm freaking speechless at the fecklessness of our CIA and other national security organizations' failure to understand what the %$#* is going on in Northern Africa and the Middle East, and even further appalled by the wild eyed variations of rhetoric delivered by President Obamamrama, VP Biden, and the so called Secretary of State sHrillary "Smile when you say that" Clinton.

When you see the chaos and lack of understanding demonstrated over the past two years on domestic policy issues relating to taxes and our business/jobs climate, then combine it with the recent idiotic response to defending our borders and responding to international situations which affect our security here at home and that of our proven allies abroad--Israel specifically--anyone that doesn't get at least a little worked up needs to be euthanized or at least sedated for their own protection in my considered Redneck opinion.

I guess in reality right now I'm so busy I can somehow actually justify not even watching the news for my normal six or eight hours a day because it just pisses me off and distracts me from getting things I need to do done on time.

It's a screwed up world out there Ladies and Gentlemen, and you are either part of the problems (or a result of the problems)...or PART OF THE SOLUTION.

I prefer to be part of the latter rather than the former, and right now working my ASS OFF is the only way I see to move the part of the world I can control forward in 2011.

Why don't YOU get busy defining what you can do and where you need to do it and stop waiting for the government to come to your rescue?

Distractions

And shifting Priorities...

Geez...

Well, I don't know quite what happened, but I blinked and just now realized that the week was over with and it was already Saturday and I've been invisible here on the blog since what...Tuesday?

Sorry.

I came back home this week, and I sat down at my desk in my office for a while, then moved to the computer workstation in the shop, and one thing lead to another and I just haven't had the time to write anything worth reading here.

Of course some people say that is the situation most if not all of the time regarding my ramblings, but still...

I'm up to my eyeballs in work and proposal requests and between spending time beating on vendors and chasing potential vendors and otherwise working 40 or 50 hours a week these days...things are a little slow here in the Internet Commentary Department.

That's a good thing in theory, but since it lends itself to lapses in my commentary if I keep it up I'm afraid it will also cause further lapses in my sanity.

I'm pretty much used to being a useless bum in recent history, thus I don't quite know how to handle things anymore when the work load gets like it has been since January 1st of this year.  If I'm not careful I'll end up working full time here in my basement.

Who knew things would lead to this?

Live From Peachtree Street

Free Internet At Starbucks...

I swear every battery I have is dieing (phone and computer) and I spent the night last night with an old friend in the city which is possibly one of the last dozen six three people on the planet that still uses AOL for Internet.

Not only that, but all of his computers are at least five six eight years old so it takes a half hour to load the AOL home page and then get to Yahoo e-mail.

I didn't dare try to get to Blogger last night but I snuck back downtown for lunch after finally finishing my PLC Operator Interface start up this morning and after grabbing some soft tacos I wandered in here to try to catch up on what's going on in the world for a few minutes.

Things went well yesterday and I could have finished my work until we ran into some wiring problems in stuff the plant people had done so I had to come back this morning.

Oh well, the panel was singing and dancing and speaking in foreign languages when I left and the customer was happy.

Time to head back south now to see what's been going on with the Turbo Pup and Pat.

Regards Y'all...

Packers 31--Steelers 25

Not All Gloom & Doom...

Oh well, we stomped and cheered and stood up in front of the TV most of the second half but couldn't stop the Steelers from beating themselves with turnovers.

Fortunately for me personally I'm a fair weather Steelers fan and just cheer along with Pat's family because they're all die hards.

It's sad but at least the Pittsburgh team has been in the big game two years in a row...something few teams have accomplished in the past 45 seasons.

Time now to turn my attention to getting ready for a big meeting and plant start-up visit tomorrow.

Regards Y'all...

Headin' South Again

A LITTLE Business and A SUPER Bowl...

I've burned the midnight oil this evening cleaning up a bunch of paper work and other details in the process of getting ready to be out of town for part or possibly most of the next couple of weeks on business.

In anticipation of a Monday morning plant visit in Hotlanta we're heading back south this afternoon to visit some of Pat's family again in the "metro area" and watch Pittsburgh beat Green Bay  in the Super Bowl Sunday night.

You'll be able to identify me because I'll most likely be the only one in the room without Steelers' garb on--everyone else being from the suburban Pittsburgh area.

I have a hard time getting excited about pro sports of any kind these days having spent zillions of dollars and hours watching the old Atlanta Flames Hockey Team and the Atlanta Hawks and Braves and Falcons only to experience heartbreak as the teams snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

There is the single World Series victory the Braves eked out in the mid 1990's but other than that I'm just sayin...

Cheering for Georgia Tech sports and enduring the drama of 17-21 year old kids spasmodically under-achieving most seasons is all my heart can bear these days, but I'll humor Pat and her family and act excited because Pittsburgh is in all of their blood.

With my history maybe I should cheer for Green Bay just to not jinx the Steelers.

So any way, once again I'm on the road and although I've got the wireless Internet working well at our host's home I don't promise any critical insights delivered courtesy of this blog over the next three or four days.

Feel free to peruse the Internet and entertain yourselves in my absence.

Regards Y'all...

One More Down

Hopefully Hundreds More To Go...

I'm pleased to report that after a great deal of stress and strain and huffing and puffing, I finally managed to toss another Custom PLC/Operator Interface panel out the door this afternoon.  My sales rep Harry hauled it off my bench and walked right out the door with it about an hour ago on his way to show it off to everyone.

I've been working on the concept for the past 9 months and it finally started taking physical shape in December and the software was once again a bitch to design and implement because this prototype is a Demo model intended to carry around on sales calls to show potential customers.

I'm still not the best or fastest programmer in the world, but I can build a nice looking panel and wire it up nice and neet and I look forward to getting some more work later this month after I get back from Atlanta and Havre de Gras, Maryland in the next few weeks.

I think I'll take the rest of the week off and go have dinner and drinks at Lakeshore Tavern overlooking the Mighty Tennessee River.  Meet us there about 5 PM for happy hour if you're in the area...

Still Busy

Who's Idea Was All Of This Stuff Any Way?

The phone call I've been waiting for since the first of the year came yesterday about noon.

I have to have my butt and my computer and my PLC programming skills in Atlanta next Monday morning to finally set up their Bottle monitoring panel I built last fall.

With any luck I'll go straight from Atlanta to the Baltimore suburbs (weather permitting) later next week doing the same thing on the sister panel to Atlanta.

Then if everything works out they want TEN more duplicates of the same thing delivered over the next few months.

My belly button is puckering and un-puckering thinking about the prospect of selling an order that size.

In other news, I tossed up the framing lumber to support the back dividing wall down in the basement running between my shop and Pat's Office...thereby creating a BRAND NEW and improved separate room at the bottom of the stairs separated from the other half of the basement.

It's been previously used as my "shipping and receiving" area, and while it will somewhat still maintain that function  on a part time basis, it will at the same time be converted into an area I'm calling "The Wee Pup Pub".

Maybe on second thought "The Turbo Pup Pub" because of its size--roughly 12 feet by 12 feet square.

Still, there's already a surplus section of angled bar/cabinetry which we got from our neighbor's kitchen renovation and there's room for a regulation dart board and with a little imagination and patience and slow work the space could be a very nice little "hole in the wall" to hang out in in our basement part time while the snow falls outside or the humidity keeps us inside in the summer.

In the past nearly four years we've managed to add almost 500 square feet of finished space to the home by improving the unfinished areas in the basement.  The shop really isn't really considered "living space" but it is heated and cooled and most men owning more than a hammer and a couple of screwdrivers would rather live down there than up in the Living Room I think.

I spend at least 30 hours a week in the space and find it to be quite comfortable with TV and internet service and all of my tools laying around within about 12 feet of my mind when I want to drill a hole or cut something into pieces.

Meanwhile, I have to get mentally prepared to go into two giant plastic bottle production plants next week and come out victorious so I know that you will excuse me if posting is light for a while.

(I reserve the right to explode at any given moment over any given subject I come across in the mean time, but still...)

I'm A Technological Curmudgeon?

Where Are My 45 RPM Records?

Gosh darn it Ladies and Gentlemen, but this morning finds me once again beside myself...ready to pull the remaining hair out of my ever greying, ever balding head.

Why...you might ask?

Because I'm faced with "upgrading" our home cable system.

Why, you might ask?

Because I don't own a single freaking DIGITAL TELEVISION because I own four perfectly good analogue TV's and an Analog TV card installed in my server Computer.

Sometime in the past ten years I've slipped off of the planet of ultimate consumerism and these days I generally wait until something breaks and I can't fix it with duct or electrical tape before I replace it.

Computers being an exception in upgrading every three to five years, the rest of my lifes' accessories including things like Cars and Trucks and even UNDERWEAR are only replaced when they fail me and/or leave me stranded on the side of the road or otherwise embarrassed in the emergency room as they cut the clothes off of my body.

So any way, after helping my mother negotiate the transition from the conversion of broadcast TV signals parallel to her Direct TV Satellite service a couple of years ago, I forgot that Comcast and the other cable TV companies were also moving toward converting their Cable TV services to Digital only...

...and that deadline is in the Month of February 2011 here in Knoxtown.

Last month I sent away for their "Self Installation" package for four TVs...forgetting about the under the counter unit we have in the kitchen.

Then I've fooled around ignoring the package and just opened it tonight and my head nearly exploded when I realized what I was going to have to do to use the contents.

EVERY SINGLE FREAKING TV IN MY HOUSE WILL HAVE A NEW--ADDITIONAL--REMOTE CONTROL ASSOCIATED WITH IT IN ORDER TO CHANGE CHANNELS.

Of course the blue tooth DVD player and VCR in the Living room will continue to have their own separate remote controls and the non-surround sound system will have it's own remote, and now the TV in the Master bedroom will require two remotes to operate and likewise the TV in my basement Shop.

And my server PC?

I don't know if it will work at all but instead of changing channels with the keyboard or the mouse now I have to have a remote control for that system.

I've completely rewired the cable system in this house in the past nearly four years and now I have to crawl around in the floor and poke my head under and inside of the cabinets holding TV's to get this crap to work and I'm tired of fooling with unwanted technology upgrades.

We don't do "On Demand Video"

We don't have the "Ultimate Sports" packages.

For that matter I don't have Satellite Radio and I don't have an I-Phone or I-Box or I-Pad  or I-Cat or I-Dog or I or Eye ANYTHING.

I haven't been to a Movie in a theater since 2002 and I haven't bought a CD since about then, and the only DVD's I've bought were gifts for relatives.

I just don't care about advancing much further technically anymore.

This coming from a guy that read BYTE Magazine and PC World from cover to cover every month in 1984...

But still...

I've gotten along for most of a half century without all of this current crap.  I absolutely hate my Cell phone, love my GPS, enjoy a good laptop computer, but other than that I just want a TV signal with about a half dozen channels on it.

FOX News...

The Weather Channel...

The Discover Channel...

Food Network...

The Military Channel...

And Comedy Central when Southpark is on...

Other than that?

You can have the balance because it's all just distracting noise to me.

...taking a big breath here boss...

So now it's time to get my wire cutters and electrical tape out and see if I can make the crap in all of these boxes work and get my TV service back to where it was yesterday morning.

Someone send up a flare if you don't hear from me in a couple of days.

Warm Weather's Going To Kill Me

Carefull What You Wish For...

It was over 60 degrees here at the TurboPup Compound on the Banks of the Mighty Tennessee River this weekend.

Closer to 70 degrees in my back yard this afternoon I think.

So...you know me... in a spastic fit of home improvement and landscaping efforts employing pent up energy from enduring a couple of months of snow and ice and just generally crappy weather, I wandered out into my yard with my chain saw and wheel barrow and some other tools and a bunch of good intentions.

I was determined to clear the small overhanging trees and other crap off of my back property line which was shading a good portion of my garden plot last summer.  I also have a gigantic Crepe Myrtle tree on the Southwest corner of the property which was shading another portion of the garden from the sun in the late afternoon which in my mind had to go.

Three hours on Saturday, and another three hours today, and now I have a pile of logs and limbs the size of a small school bus laying there annoying me.  It's supposed to rain tonight and tomorrow and turn cold again this week so processing the pile further and getting a burn permit and disposing of the mess is out of the question for a while.

You know what?

GOOD THING, because I'm such a middle aged wimp that I've seen all I need to see of the Chain Saw and other yard tools for about a month.

So it's back onto the Patent Engineering work and more PLC programming this week sitting like a little nerd in my shop in the basement.

I hope Y'all have a LOVELY week also...

Egypt Falls

I've Seen This Movie Before...

Last time we had a limp wristed pansy Assed butt kissing pacifist President here in the US was the Jimmuh Carter years in the late 1970's.

Slick Willie Clinton was a liberal but he thought nothing of tossing a few Cruise missiles across the border of some middle eastern country into a terrorist camp to distract attention away from his latest sexual dalliance.

And the Berkley patchouli stinking, Tie Dyed, Kumbaya singing tree hugging Earth Day liberal progressives have blamed every thing and everyone but Carter's policies for the Iranian Hostage crisis which lasted 444 days ending when Reagan was inaugurated.

Since then they've given ABSOLUTELY ZERO credit to President Bush's ability to keep further terrorist attacks from taking place here on American soil after the 9/11 incident which was essentially planned and implemented under Clinton.

This week, Ladies & Gentlemen, we're seeing EXACTLY THE SAME THING DEVELOP IN EGYPT UNDER OUR COMMUNITY ORGANIZER IN CHIEF Obamarama.

The militants and "dissidents" and "freedom fighters" are in the process of turning that country upside down and I guarnandamntee you that it ain't going to be pretty when the dust settles unless the US takes decisive action.

And I guarandamntee you that Americans and Western Europeans lives are at peril and probably will end up hostages if they are not dead shortly.

They just announced that the Egyptian Airline has suspended flights for the next 12 hours and I suspect that other air carriers going into the country if not the region have suspended or at least curtailed flights so if you are a non-muslim and want to get out now you are shit out of luck.

Just watch...and remember you heard it here first.

UPDATE  4:55 PM  Delta Airlines has announced that their last flight out of Egypt will be tomorrow.

Isn't it lovely how quickly Obama and Hillary can screw around and allow this Egyptian shit to basically offset the stability we've managed to get in Iraq?

The difference is that Iraq doesn't sit beside the Red Sea and most importantly the Suez Canal.

Get ready for $5 dollar a gallon gasoline while you're at it I think.

Death & Taxes Death By Taxes

Can We Audit The IRS?

I just got up at 4 AM and nearly four hours later I thought that I was finished working my way through my company's 2010 Quickbooks Account and transferring everything over to Turbo Tax Business Edition.

Now I'm pretty pissed off because after spending all of that time and nearly $500 on software (two copies of Quickbooks and one of Turbotax) I still can't file the company income taxes...

and thus I can't file Pat's taxes or my own personal income tax.

Why?

Because the stupid %**#@ Government...specifically the IRS...hasn't released the 1120S forms for Subchapter S corporations.

Why?

Because the stupid %*#@ Congress couldn't make a decision until December to keep the "Bush Tax" cuts in place.

So now the IRS is fooling around working at their normal pace..."the speed of sound smell"...and who knows when the forms will be available, but you can bet that my Corporate Filings will still be due March 15th (not April 15th like personal returns.)

Why can't the IRS do something smart like doing the forms people use first like the 1040 and the 1120 by CHANGING THE DATE ON THE FORM, and then go down the list the the more obscure forms which only 20 people use every year.

Things like the "Yak Farmer's Feed Rebate Program," or the "Crotchless Overall Wearing Transvestite Mennonite Preacher Homestead Exemption."

You know?

Oh well, talk to y'all later...

27 Hours In Two Days

All Work And No Play Makes Virgil a Dull Tired Boy...

Just in case you haven't noticed, I'm Busier Than Heck Right Now.

It's a good thing professionally, but I wish the work would spread itself out a little because at this rate I'll be unemployed out of something to do for a while as of next week.

Sorry for the light posting, but I'm too wore out to get angry about the stupid stuff the President says and the other idiot stuff I read every now and then which is going on in the world.

See Y'all later

Liar Liar...Pants On Fire

John sKerry And Obamarama Should Start A New Organization...

Just in case you haven't been paying attention, the newly inaugurated Governor of Hawaii...

(That would be a fellow named Mr. Neil Abercrombie...and you think that I look scary or funny...)

has stirred up a bunch of crap recently regarding the Obama "birther" issue when after his inauguration he was going to "put the matter to rest officially."

Then less than a couple of weeks later the man has given up because he "can't actually find the birth certificate in the files."

And  now ,conveniently,  verily amazingly... the Hawaii "privacy laws are stopping even the governor from releasing a copy of the Obama_birth_certificate...

State Attorney General David Louie told the governor that privacy laws bar him from disclosing an individual's birth documentation without the person's consent, Abercrombie spokeswoman Donalyn Dela Cruz said Friday.

"There is nothing more that Gov. Abercrombie can do within the law to produce a document," said Dela Cruz. "Unfortunately, there are conspirators who will continue to question the citizenship of our president."

Abercrombie, who was a friend of Obama's parents and knew him as a child, launched an investigation last month into whether he can release more information about the president's Aug. 4, 1961 birth. The governor said at the time he was bothered by people who questioned Obama's birthplace for political reasons.

But Abercrombie's attempt reached a dead end when Louie told him the law restricted his options.

This is total and complete, unmitigated, pure BULLSHIT...

Just like John sKerry's War Records proving he didn't get Purple Heart Metals for in-grown toe nails and superficial scratches, Obama's refusal to provide virtually any of his records from college transcripts to his birth certificate in my mind is proof he has something to hide, and that most likely other than the stupidity of the majority of American voters checking the box beside his name two years ago is that he is ineligible according to the US Constitution to hold the office of President and the position of Commander and Chief of the US military forces.

Obama must have a certified, "sealed", government issued legal copy of his own "long form" live birth certificate in his wallet or in his safe or burried in a mason jar out in the back yard of the White House, YOU KNOW?

Why not just release the dang thing and put this controversy to rest once and for all before the next election?

(and while he's at it toss out the college transcripts and show that he probably sucked as much as a student as he does as a president...)

I can't freaking get a bank account without some form of government identification.

I can't rent an automobile without a government issued driver's license.

I can't get a passport or visa without submitting an official certified copy of my birth certificate to the authorities in the process.

Yet this stupid, incompetent, dangerous rocket scientist "community organizer" is allowed to run for and be elected to the most important office in the entire country (not to mention being a US Senator for 5 seconds before that) without submitting his credentials...his birth certificate...to the real AUTHORITIES in charge of the election.

The American voters.

I believe that even though I voted against the current holder of the office of the President of the United States of 'Merica that I have the right to personally inspect the documents verifying his fundamental credentials to hold the office since all of the other idiots that wandered into the voting booths elected him.

Just prove you are eligable to be elected, not just capable of getting people that need money and stuff stolen from other people and given to them to vote for you.

Yet for some reason in the past 30 years we've forgotten or been forced to forget that the American Voters run  the government and the government is responsible to us...

not the other way around.

But if we keep going, in addition to working for the government for 25% to 33% of the year to pay taxes, we're going to wake up one day and find that they own our butts,...lock, stock, and barrel and there's nothing we can do about it.

It's just that simple...

Living In The Newest Level In Hell

Dante Didn't Envision PLC Programming Or He Would Have Warned Me...

Dang it Ladies and Gentlemen, but this morning finds me frustrated to the point of wanting to pull the remaining hair out of my ever greying, ever balding head.

I swear that if there is a mistake which can be made or a hardware/software error which can be tripped over, I believe that I have managed to do so with my size 13 feet in the past fourteen months since I endeavored to start a company and build custom PLC based control panels.

Hey...It's not like I didn't TRY to avoid disaster.

After all, the first thing I did was go to the factory up in Indianapolis before I cut a single hole in a NEMA 12 cabinet, and I took their introductory controller class before I stripped the first wire and stuck it into a DIN rail mounted terminal strip, but to no good end yet because today no matter what...

I keep finding a way to delay my progress.

And I'm so hard headed and proud and afraid that it's something silly I'm doing wrong that I always wait before asking for help until I'm not only LATE on delivery...

but now I'm REAL LATE on the modification of a panel I built early last year.

So any way, past laments aside, about 1 AM this morning I was cruising along happy as a clam.

Everything was working like it was supposed to in the shop.  The whistles were whistling and the bells were ringing and all of the high priced thing-a-ma-jigs were singing the same song in the correct key...Z minor.

I had it under control I thought, then when I added the last rung on the new PLC ladder program and made a couple of modifications to the touch screen apperances...

...I was ready to print everything out and modify the owners manual...

...I was just hours away from taping up a big box with everything in it Saturday afternoon and running to FedEX...

...and then WHAM...

...when I downloaded the last few revisions to the PLC controller everything went to HELL.

I mean, now stuff which I didn't even change on the last revision stopped working.

Now I can't even get the PLC to move past the first intro screen which only has our company name and a button that says "CONTINUE" on it.

I've since spent another  FOUR HOURS fiddling around, doing incantations and Voodoo chants and threatening the machine with my biggest hammer and still...

NOTHING.

I've re-booted every computer in the house in the process, reprogrammed the  Heat Pump Thermostat, went out and rotated the tires on both cars, and still I can't get this stupid box to work.

It won't work even with software which I wrote a year ago and I know worked at the time and hasn't been changed.

Therefore I must have a bad PLC unit, else there is some other stupid thing I don't know about and managed to trip over and now I have to wait until Monday to ask the technical support people a question.

I'm so damn smart I've out smarted myself...

Who Hu Are You?

Speaking Chinese With A British Accent...

&^&$#%^&*?

(that would be the sound of me foaming at the mouth...)

I'm sitting here watching the joint news conference being conducted by our African born President Obama and the Chinese leader Hu.

I'm sorry...but I don't trust the Chinese for five minutes, and giving the little F**ker a translator with a British accent doesn't do a darn thing for me when it comes to making me believe anything he says regarding financial, business, economic, or military security efforts between the US and China.

Interestingly enough the translator for Obama sounds Chinese or at least Japanese or otherwise generically Asian...

China sits on a bunch of councils at the United Nations and when and if the Soviets or the Iranians or the North Koreans want to poop into an ice cream machine and then try to sell it to the rest of the world as an expensive chocolate au latte flavored desert the Chinese are always right there with them printing the packaging and making the US taxpayers foot the bill for the tamper proof seals on the cartons.

If I'm going to have to pay to eat shit I'd rather it be my own shit or the shit of my voluntary choosing, and President Obama and President Bush and President Clinton and the President Bush before and the US Congress (house and Senate) for the past 50 years have sold our souls to the Chinese and one day pretty soon the bill is going to come due and if we are not careful the payment is going to be in the form of some sort of weapon landing on our doorsteps, bought and financed by the good old US of A.

Is it just me?  Dammit...

Apparently Alabama Has Elected A New Stupid Shithead To Run The State

"We Can't Seem To Keep The Most Ignorant Among US Out Of Government Or Off The TV..."

As all of my regular readers know, I grew up in "Lower Alabama", or LA for short, back in the late 1950's, 1960's, and mid 1970's.

Then I got the hell out just because the jobs were in places like Atlanta and George Wallace was doing his best to embarrass everyone beyond what Big Jim Folsom and Folsom Junior later did  in the state with stuff like standing in the doors of the University of Alabama trying to block the black students being paid to make a racial statement from entering the college.

Of course Georgia and Tennessee and South Carolina and Mississippi weren't that much better in those days but still I'm just sayin'...

Today I've learned that no matter what the underlying truths and concepts--right or wrong--that you have to pick your battles carefully...particularly when they are to be conducted on a public stage, and apparently that message hasn't made it through the grapevine or across the Internet to this new dude named Robert Bentley that was elected back in November 2010 to be the new governor of Alabama.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley told a church crowd just moments into his new administration that those who have not accepted Jesus as their savior are not his brothers and sisters, shocking some critics who questioned Tuesday whether he can be fair to non-Christians.

"Anybody here today who has not accepted Jesus Christ as their savior, I'm telling you, you're not my brother and you're not my sister, and I want to be your brother," Bentley said Monday, his inauguration
day, according to The Birmingham News.

Here's the link...

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_alabama_governor_christians

Just in case you didn't know it by now, I'm making plans to move back from the Turbopup Compound here on the banks of the Mighty Tennessee River to the farm or at least the little town near the farm in Lower Alabama in the next year or two, and believe me it bothers me when idiots like this Gubernatorial moron are still being elected to office in the State of Alabama nearly 35 years after I left the area to go to college and pursue my fortune...such as it is...

What I want to know is...Who the heck is this guy and how the hell can people in Alabama still be so stupid as to elect someone like him to office?

I don't mind his Re-Born Christian leanings, but hasn't he learned to keep his stupid yap closed depending on the audience and live the life of a Christian without alienating everyone else and giving the media fodder to attack people of faith?

Just dammit...as I wrote earlier...we can't keep the most stupid among us off the TV and out of the Newspaper Headlines...

Please Return Your Tray Table & Seat Back To The Upright And Locked Position

Place Your Head Between Your Knees And Prepare For Impact...

As I've mentioned here earlier on this blog, I don't fly that much anymore...commercial or private or otherwise...

Besides the risk of  my arms getting really tired while flapping furiously...

the FAA, in their infinite wisdom, cut my career as a Licensed Private Pilot short when they found out that I had a blood disorder which caused me to take an anticoagulant drug called Coumadin to prevent blood clots in my legs, and I guess they were afraid that when and IF I ever managed to crash a Piper or Cessna fixed wing aircraft they wouldn't want to have to come out and explain in the news article why all of the blood rushed out of my body when the propeller cut my head off in the "uncontrolled contact with terrain event."

The FAA, being a Government Agency, and always looking for something and someone to regulate (because that is what Government Agencies are in charge of doing), thinks a guy that is usually slightly insane administratively uses, instead of my insanity, my hyper-coagulative blood as a reason to stop me from doing something I infinitely enjoyed doing just BECAUSE...

Thus I haven't been in a cockpit at the controls of an airplane solo since the early 1990's (if you've never accomplished that feat let me tell you it exceeds anything else any human can ever accomplish in my opinion.)

Long before my days taking flight lessons, my Father was also an avid Aviator.

He rented an airplane and took me up on my first intro flight for my 8th birthday.  We enjoyed a love of aviation together although most of his working career he couldn't tell me and the rest of his own family what he was doing because the work out at Cairns Army Airfield at Ft. Rucker, Alabama was either SECRET or TOP SECRET.

At least CLASSIFIED.

Once he grew up and stopped limiting himself to just doing things like building and flying control line and free flight and radio controlled MODEL airplanes, he graduated from the University of Kentucky in the Army ROTC program and joined the US Army Signal Corps in the mid 1950's and immediately went to flight school.

By the time his career was over he had logged thousands of hours in the air and he held private pilot, instrument, multi-engine, air transport, and helicopter licenses.

As a Army Test Pilot, he never once crashed an airplane (or a car for that matter although a cow once ran into the side of our 1968 Chevy Nomad Station Wagon...but that's another entirely different blog posting I need to write sometime.)

Any way...One thing that he could talk about, which is the subject of my posting this morning, is the public's mis-understanding of the reason why we are asked to turn off all electronic devices on commercial air liners while in flight or at least during the take off and landing portion of any given journey.

You see, much of my Dad's career was spent testing the interaction of electronics in the cockpit of aircraft as technology rapidly advanced in the 1960's and early 1970's.

All of the "doo-dads" and gauges and bells and whistles which we take for granted in the cockpit really don't like to get along with each other.  Thus today smart people designing Airplanes and Helicopters know that every single possible configuration of "avionics" has to be tested and re-tested in order to verify that everyone can get along well when the pilot(s) are depending on the readings and information they are delivering.

Imagine the complexity added when you have an airplane which not only has it's own "suite" of fancy radios and GPS and airspeed indicators, but then you add 250 passengers each wielding a cell phone and laptop computer and I-pad and God knows what else?

That said, articles like this one drive me a little crazy because just like people who insist on driving and texting, we live in a population of self important assholes people that somehow believe that they can't live for a couple of hours without their ADD disorder being distracted by something besides reading the Delta SkyMall magazine.

CAN'T YOU GIVE THIS CRAP A REST...FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS...PEOPLE???

Why not get on an airliner, sit down, close your eyes, and not make a single noise for two hours?

Give the rest of us a freaking break, won't you?

Let me not have to listen to your inane cell phone conversation with whoever telling them crap that you could tell them once we're safely back at the jet way awaiting the cabin doors to be re-opened.

And while you are at it, why not stay in your seat rather than leaping up as soon as the plane parks and standing with your ass in my face for five minutes while all of the other people in front of you rush to get off of the plane?

Are you actually that IMPORTANT?

I swear that one of the places I'm most likely to get arrested between now and the end of my life is somewhere inside or around a Commercial Airliner.

Not for being a terrorist...

For being a VIGILANTE.

For kicking someone's stupid ass...

(And the crowd will applaud me as they lead me away in handcuffs...)

I guess that that will be all...For Now...

Another Raymond Gone

Only The Good Die Young...

OK...I've been silent here on the blog for a couple of reasons this weekend.

First of all, I'm busy as Heck and don't need to be spending time on the Internet but I do anyway because I'm addicted.

Second of all,  in my insanity I started another home improvement project this week, aimed at finishing in the stairwell to our partially finished basement and as is usual...

The project has now exploded out of proportions and way beyond "hey honey let's spend a hundred bucks on some wood and paint..."

If things keep going like they are I'll have what amounts to a small Irish Pub--complete with leprechauns and about 12' x 12' square feet of wood and stone at the bottom of my stairs by next Friday.

And finally, and you know me...I generally don't worship celebrities and didn't fly to England to lay flowers at the tomb of Lady Dianna and stuff like that...BUT...

A wonderful man I never got to meet in person but with whom I had talked several times on the telephone in his position as producer of The Neal Boortz Show on AM 750 out of Atlanta died suddenly early Saturday morning.

Just dropped dead out of the blue.

He was only 43 years old.

And I have to tell you Ladies and Gentlemen...this event shook me to my very foundations having been where I have been in the past in the Hospital.

So any way...His name was Raymond Royal Marshall.

And even though we never met in person I feel like I knew him by listening to him on the radio for the past 15 years and after speaking to him when I would call in to rant with Neal...particularly in the old days before the show's syndication made it almost impossible to get anything but a busy signal when you dialed.

As far as I know he was a perfect gentleman, and an example of what a man should aspire to be (and he was a black man for all of you out there that think that I'm some sort of bigot or racist.)

He waited until he was almost 40 to get married and then he produced two little daughters who are now going to have to grow up without their Daddy.

And of course he left behind a wife and grieving family, and tens if not hundreds of thousands of people like me that want to know good people like Raymond Royal Marshal are out there rather than just the self consumed trash that fills the headlines and radio and TV broadcasts.

Goodby Mr. Marshall...Rest In Peace....

It's ABOVE Freezing For The First Time In a Year Month Week!!!

Hurrayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy...

Footprints Are The Best Thing About A Good Snowfall

Helps You Know Who (Or What) Has Come A Callin'...

I just took a tour of my property boundary at 5 AM this morning in the dark.

Outside in the cold, frosty, silence, I remembered that I'm still a country boy at heart.

I think that I've written that phrase/information/declaration several times if not several hundred times here on this blog, but I somehow felt like reiterating it again this morning because of the experience I've just had looking at the world through the prism of winter weather.

Thinking back now, my lament is partially due to in retrospect to some poor decisions I made earlier in life resulting in my relegation to living 27 at first glorious and in the end hellish years in Atlanta and the "Atlanta Suburbs" while attending college and the following miss-directed years of professional "aspiration's" which yielded a bunch of money for companies and business partners and a couple of ex-wives...but only a little for me when the balance sheet was closed.

Efforts which only proceeded to allow various "parties" and "individuals" to take said money and let my aforementioned wives and/or my aforementioned business partners and/or their lawyers and/or their accountants and/or their  "fiduciaries" to go do something else and/or someone else other than me with it all when the dust settled.

I guess that you could say that I have a PHD in how NOT to do things when it was all said and done.

What was amazing was that I somehow put  up with the process for that interminably long period before I managed to get my butt out of that town i.e. "regional metropolitan area" and not be jailed for life for being convicted of committing a capitol crime of passion or otherwise.

Of course my defense would be INSANITY then just like it is today.

You Know?

...BIGgggggg breath here Boss...

That said, I was wandering around out in my yard a couple of times the past week since the snow started falling and it is interesting to see all of the activity that happens out there night and day which I may or may not see just sitting around picking my nose and Googling around the computer screen each day,

Take the footprints you can see in the snow for instance.

I'm an expert animal and human tracker when there is snow on the ground just like the "injuns" and other guys that were paid to such stuff in the old John Wayne and Clint Eastwood movies.

I see my own foot prints from yesterday and get all excited before I remember that I was out that way already...Barney Fife style police work...
OK, actually I'd rather damn be looking at "footprints in the sand" on a beach somewhere, but still it works the same way here in the deep freezer we call Knoxtown.

But now back to the subject regarding "SNOW footprints"...

Just tonight on my evening tour I could see the footprints of  our local Crow (Raven) population all over the place in my yard, and that the "Rascally Wrabbit" or "Wrabbits" (in the words of Elmer Fudd) are jumping all around the place for some reason...I guess looking for whatever it is that Wrabbits look for to eat, and then there is the neighbor's Tomcat which makes his rounds early every morning just making sure everything is in order.

If you've ever owned a good Tom Cat you know what I mean...if you bring something into the room or move it around the Cat will come in and do what I call "inventory" and identify the change within about ten seconds and then sit there and point at the offending artifact while continuing to inspect it extensively.

Our yard sort of works the same way for our Neighbor's Tom Cat.

And apparently there is a Possum or an Opossum wandering around and a Raccoon and the obligatory squirrels and so on...

So any way...in conclusion this morning...

...it snowed another half inch or so yesterday morning, we still as a result pretty much have a couple of three inches on the ground all around, and I still have to wear a shirt and socks even INSIDE MY HOUSE here Dammit.

And Y'all have a LOVELY Day ... If you will...

I Stand Corrected

I Miss-Spoke Regarding Glock Magazine Capacity...

Other than having strong opinions, I'm nothing if not as technically accurate here on this blog as possible, thus the reason for this posting this morning.

I have to admit that I was ignorant in not knowing in my earlier posting that Glock makes a factory 33 round clip for their model 17, 18, and 19 series 9 MM caliber weapons.

It looks pretty stupid because it hangs out a long way out of the bottom of the pistol's grip. The clip is intended for military and law enforcement purposes but is also available to the general public in the states which don't limit the clip capacity to 10 rounds.

Thus I stand corrected.

As an excuse I offer that I have never owned one or even seen one in person on the gun ranges I've visited, and with the cost of ammunition what it is with all of the new federal taxes I don't see why anyone would want to load up nearly $20 worth of ammunition at one time when your hands hurts after firing ten rounds and you need a rest.

I guess if you are a mass murderer it's an advantage, but again...like I wrote before...

a RESPONSIBLE well trained gun owner will kill a burglar or other life threatening assailant with one bullet and the extra 32 rounds are just there for back up or unless there a small mob breaking into their house.

Are You Lonesome Tonight?

Wintertime Reflections...

It's cold and dreary outside here in Knoxtown, with snow on the ground and a little more still coming down.

I just realized that I was remiss in not recognising Elvis's 76th birthday this week.

"The King" has been gone now for almost 34 years, but he probably wouldn't mind me posting this video of a rather unusual "Elvis Impersonator" here on the blog who died prematurely about 15 years later...

Enjoy...

New Winter Experiences

Shoveling Snow For The Turbo Pup...

I spent part of yesterday afternoon and Earllllllyyyy this morning doing something I've never really had to do as a home owner.

Using my snow shovel.

You know...the one I bought going on four years ago now when we first moved up here to Knoxtown from our little Island.

I didn't really need it so far until this last storm hit, but just like the generator we bought when we moved to the Georgia coast in anticipation of a Hurricane induced power outage and that's as of right now still sitting comfortably in the basement shrink wrapped in it's original packaging, or the Kerosene Heater we bought in anticipation of a winter Ice storm induced situation...

until yesterday my new Snow Shovel has happily resided unused in the carport along with some other sometimes used but often neglected yard tools.

So any way, I strapped on my winter boots and ski bibs and put on a hat and my parka and wandered outside to see what was going on.  Then I got all energetic and shoveled the drifted snow out of the carport, and then one thing lead to another and I worked my way around to the front of the house and up the sidewalk to the front porch.

Then I stopped.

At dinner last night after I had cooked pizza and everyone was settling in to watch Auburn beat Oregon at the last second to win the national championship in the BCS Bowl, Pat mentioned that it would be nice to shovel a little path for Missy the Turbo Pup out from her doggie door across the deck and expose a little grassy area in the yard for her to do her business in.

Duhhhhhh...

Having not had to live with much frozen precipitation in the past ten years, and only owning a little mini long haired dachshund for a little over four of those years (remember I was a Cat man in another life)...it just didn't occur to me to clean off an area for my Turbo Puppy.

After all...She's so versatile having been raised pool side and at the beach and...

having taken to snow while visiting her Cousin Dachshunds Olive and Otis in Kansas City I just wasn't thinking.

She's been coming back in the doggie door covered in clumps of snow from the nose and ears down with this recent storm, so this morning her Dad did like most good Dad's do and remedied the situation while I was outside putting the trash out on the curb and picking up the mail that showed up at near dark yesterday.

Oh the things men will do for little girls...human and canine...when they love them...

If A Thousand or Tens of Thousands Of Men Would Do This

"Parenting" Would Have A New Meaning And Our Society Would Benefit...

This video is definitely "not safe for work," but since when have I worried about my Blog being safe for anything except pissing people off most of the time?

Still, I'm just saying, if a bunch of young black men would get involved with raising their pre-teen and teenaged sons and put some muscle in the discipline we could pay a lot less taxes and worry a lot less about walking down the street at night.

Take a gander now if you dare:

Anti Gun Media At It Again...

They Say "Shooter Fired 31 rounds from his first clip..."

[EXPANDED AND UPDATED EDITION]

I just watched the latest news conference [and thought about things some more now] from out in Arizona where the media and the Sheriff continued to spew subtle anti-second amendment rhetoric non stop.

Wild eyed, traumatized witnesses are now coming forward and being interviewed and in all likelihood they don't really know or accurately remember what happened, but just like the number of dead and wounded continued to climb yesterday so has the number of shots fired been escalated today.

Now they're saying 31 rounds, before the gunman changed clips and one of the victims tried to grab the gun/clip.  And now apparently they're saying the gun jammed and misfired.

As I have reported here before on this blog, 30 years ago I personally went through the late night robbery of a restaurant where I as a customer had a sawed off shotgun poked into my back and pumped and had a small caliber pistol pounded on my head until the barel broke off the frame of the weapon, and in the heat of the moment all I could tell you was there were four black guys with one shotgun and a couple of pistols and they took my money and my watch.

And these lovely Niggras Negros Blacks African Americans didn't apparently give a Tinkers Damn if it was against the law to carry a weapon or beat people in the head with it or take money and possessions which didn't belong them.

It's already against the law to take a gun and shoot someone or beat them with it, and yet the sniveling, tye- died, tree hugging, patchouli stinking, Kumbaya Singing San Francisco liberal/progressives want to pass even more laws intended to take away MY GUNS under the guise of protecting me from the animals like I've already encountered...

...and when seconds count, without my guns, their Government police department is only minutes away...

...followed by the EMS ambulance and the fire department to plug the holes in my head and mop up my blood off of the floor.

As an aside, while they use the actions of a few lunatics in a country with a population of 308,000,000 to further limit gun ownership, we're actually lucky that in most all of these recent events like Virginia Tech and Columnbine and Ft. Hood and now Arizona that the shooter was really basically a pretty bad shot when the smoke cleared.

I'm not making any threats here, but you can take this for what it is worth.

IF I or most of the other people I used to shoot competitively with out in the West Atlanta suburbs in the mid 1990's, walked in somewhere and fired 31 shots at close range...

...there would be 31 dead people, not half that number.

That's not a threat ladies and gentlemen, that's a FACT.

These deranged idiots running around shooting people most of the time really can't hit the broad side of a barn with a pistol from a distance of 10 feet.

Yes, the people causing the mayhem and headlines are technically "gun owners", but not knowledgeable RESPONSIBLE gun owners and most of the time they end up shooting themselves or a family member or leave their weapon loaded and laying around and their small children find it and blow their or a siblings' brain out accidentally and yet the media and the "public" and the government do gooders want to come after every gun in the country because of their actions and stupidity.

Check the statistics, ladies and gentlemen, (and I'm too lazy to Google it right now but I've seen them) and I know that you will find that there were very few if any crimes committed or reported in the past TEN YEARS involving the use of a firearm in an illegal manner by anyone who had gone to the trouble to get the training and pay the fees for a concealed carry permit.

And yet there are a large and growing number of crimes which have been prevented or their impact limited and lives and property otherwise saved by the use of legal weapons by legitimate gun owners exercising their second amendment rights to bear arms and protect their lives and property with a rifle, shotgun, or pistol.

And there is also a large and ever growing number of crimes which could have been prevented if people possessing legal weapons carry permits had not been prevented from using them because the government continues to limit the places responsible gun owners can have guns.

Back to the Arizona story, to any knowledgeable shooter who has practiced LEGALLY on a gun range doing rapid fire, it's not unusual for a semi-automatic piston to jam as it heats up and as you change clips...particularly a gun owned by someone that doesn't really know what they are doing and doesn't clean and otherwise take care of their weapon.

And the idea of a gun holding 31 rounds in a single clip is something believed only by the non-shooting public, the ignorant media,  or shown in science fiction movies.  That is more than double even the largest non-factory clip extensions available in gun shops and on the Internet.

[UPDATE  Ooops...Glock makes a law enforcement/military clip which holds 33 rounds.  It looks stupid and sticks way out of the grip of the gum but they're out there in states which don't already limit clips to 10 rounds.  My mistake...I was wrong and I admit it in another blog posting on January 12th, so don't start bitching at me...]
I'm really disappointed that Fox News, in the rush to get the lead on this continuing story, has done such a shitty job of fact checking their on the air coverage.

Yesterday we had a dead Congresswoman which turned out to still be alive , and today we have 31 round Glock 9 MM bullet clips when there is really no such thing.

They quickly corrected the report of the death of the Congresswoman because they had to, but you'll probably not hear the 31 bullet clip falsehood corrected

Stupid people (as opposed to just uneducated...and there's a real difference) work in all disciplines in life, but we seem to have some of the most examples of stupidity in the ranks which matter most...

Working in "Education" at Government Schools and writing copy and doing broadcast work in "News Media outlets."

And interestingly enough they have the gumption to blame Talk Radio and Internet Bloggers for spewing falsehoods and hate while they're at it...and get away with it in most venues they control.

Is it just me?

Insanity Continues To Wreck Havoc

Idiots On The left Already Blaming The Right...

As you know if you read this blog, I've been around more than a little while here on this planet and in the past half century I've gone from pure Conservative to Libertarian in my adult life.

Before that transformation, back before I could actually vote in an election, I have to admit that I was a George Wallace Democrat because A) I was born and raised and lived in southern Alabama, and B) I was born and raised and lived in southern Alabama and didn't know anything else to do when it came to politics.

I suspect that people living in South Carolina voting for Strom Thurman and in Georgia electing Lester Maddox were in the same position even if they were a few years or even a generation older than me at the time.

That said, it pisses me off when people, unfortunately usually young white men, take things into their own hands and bypass the electoral process and go out and SHOOT DULY ELECTED OFFICIALS when they don't agree with them and their politics.

Happened to George Wallace during his presidential campaign in 1972, happened to Gerrald Ford and Ron Reagan and Kennedy and Lincoln and God knows how many other now forgotten local and state politicians, but in my opinion this mess which happened out in Arizona yesterday is going to do NOTHING if not make it harder for the people to talk to their governing officials and put a bunch of additional pressure on gun owners because the anti-gun idiots will use the event as a talking point.

My heart goes out to the wounded and the dead from yesterday's "man made disaster" but the media coverage and the political BS coming out of it pisses me off and there is nothing I can do but sit on the sidelines quietly and watch.

A Good Saturday I Think

Life Is What You Make Of It I Know...

I've been sort of stuck in a mental funk recently in spite of the happy stuff I've been writing here on the blog.  Attribute the situation to my multi-personality syndrome or whatever, but half of me has been elated and the other half has been going crazy worrying about stuff.

Now at the end of this week a few things resolved themselves in a positive manner and I think that maybe I  can move forward.

I just checked outside and we're getting a nice little fluffy snow storm with about an inch or so on the ground so far this morning, and down here in the shop after stopping to take a nap and reset my synapses I just had a major breakthrough with a programming problem I've been having with a new type of PLC controller I'm working with.

I don't understand why so many nerds are such bad writers--particularly technical writing--technical things being what we do and all...but they are.  I just spent part of last week trying to understand something which was stupidly silly and easy but was not even in the "official" documentation and only casually mentioned in some other material I had received from a class I took a couple of years ago.

I'm not going to let that omission upset me and ruin my good mood yelling about wanting to wring some techno-idiot's neck...

...I'm just going to remain cool and calm and happy and have a good Saturday and get up and cook Pat and the Turbo Pup some eggs and keep on keeping on on an even keel.

Y'all have a LOVELY weekend, if you will...and stay warm...

The Phone's Starting To Ring

New Year Looking Profitable...

To my surprise I got a phone call this afternoon from a stranger asking for some pricing on our custom pneumatic valve rebuild services.

Better yet, they're interested in what we call a "Master Rebuild" which cost about three and one half times as much as a "Basic Rebuild," so the value of the Purchase Order piles up real fast when they send in six or eight valves for service.

Each machine typically requires 16 valves, and there's a few thousand of these old machines sprinkled around North America/Canada, and apparently word is getting out that we do a good job I guess.

I predict that our first real employee we hire will primarily spend his or her time re-building valves if things work out...who knows.

I rebuilt 84 of them from the fourth quarter of 2009 through the last shipment which went out of here by FedEX on New Years Eve, and there's a good but small living to be had by coming up to speed and doing two or three times that number here in 2011.

In other news, in spite of the winter weather outside my front and back doors, last week we had a new ultra-high efficiency TRANE heat pump system installed to replace the ancient, inefficient GE 1970's vintage unit and I'm able to run around both levels of the house without socks and a sweatshirt and be comfortable.

I'm not in any way a nudist, but at the same time I hate wearing extra clothes unless I'm going to Church or the mall or other places in public.  It's the pirate/beach bum tendancies in me I guess, and this new TRANE unit quietly keeps all of the house at a comfortable level of temperature...hopefully at a cost of less than the $300 per month we were paying three or four months out of the year using the old unit.

This old 1963 vintage house is starting to be in better shape now than it was the day it was build because of our efforts over the past nearly 4 years.  A new roof and a coat of paint on the soffits and facias and window trim and it will be better than new I think.

If I was half it's age rather than being four years older than the old brick lady I'd tackle the roof myself, but my days of doing roofing ended with the 12' x 12' storage building I built for my dear Mother on the Farm back in the early 1990's.

I'm still considering doing the paint because the house is brick on four sides and the tallest part of the woodwork is only about 24 feet off of the ground. I guess I'll get a quote and if I can save $1,500 to $2,000 it's worth my while to climb up and down a ladder a few thousand times when the weather warms up this spring.

I really enjoy working on my cars and my houses and doing mechanical stuff on a "hands on" basis, it's just that like everyone else...the older I get the more fragile I become and saving a little money while risking spending the rest of my life in a neck brace is something I don't have to have anyone else remind me about.

OK, enough blogging for the moment...Until something I read or see on the TV or Internet pisses me off...

Regards Y'all...

Walkin' In A Winter Wonderland

Old Age Yields Bad Attitude Toward Frozen Precipitation...

In spite of the forecast, we picked up somewhere between 3 and 4 inches of snow here in West Knoxtown again yesterday afternoon.

If things keep going as they are this winter will possibly set some new records for snowfall in this part of Eastern Tennessee.

Twenty five years ago I would have ran outside and come back in a hour later soaking wet because it was one of those juicy snows that comes down in "flakes" the size of potato chips. The trees and shrubbery and power lines all had steep stacks of fluffy ice standing on them all evening as a result.

Today, as things have developed, I've only experienced the event by peeking out a couple of windows and opening the door to the back yard deck to check how much things are melting.

I'm arguing with myself about missing the scenery with my camera because it really was a pretty kind of snow, but my back hurts and I have other stuff to do and etc., etc. etc...

so you'll probably just have to use your imagination to see the event here in your mind if you live south or East of here.

Hey IRS Idiots...Can I wait Until June 15th To File?

Just In Case You Haven't Noticed...

I challenge you to go online on the IRS website and find Corporate tax return forms for 2010.

Check into the 2010 personal tax forms for those of us that want to itemize our so-called "deductions."

Corporate forms which are due by March 15th...not April 15th...with a $89 per month penalty per shareholder per month if filed late...

EVEN IF YOU DON'T OWE ANY FEDERAL INCOME TAX...

are not available as of today--January 4th, 2010.

Idiot government...can't live with them...forced to not live without them.

If You Think This Can't Happen Here In the USA You're A Dumbass

And If You Are A Dumbass You Probably Will Vote YES When The Time comes...

European Nations Begin Seizing Private Pensions

People’s retirement savings are a convenient source of revenue for governments that don’t want to reduce spending or make privatizations. As most pension schemes in Europe are organised by the state, European ministers of finance have a facilitated access to the savings accumulated there, and it is only logical that they try to get a hold of this money for their own ends. In recent weeks I have noted five such attempts: Three situations concern private personal savings; two others refer to national funds.

The most striking example is Hungary, where last month the government made the citizens an offer they could not refuse. They could either remit their individual retirement savings to the state, or lose the right to the basic state pension (but still have an obligation to pay contributions for it). In this extortionate way, the government wants to gain control over $14bn of individual retirement savings.

The Bulgarian government has come up with a similar idea. $300m of private early retirement savings was supposed to be transferred to the state pension scheme. The government gave way after trade unions protested and finally only about 20% of the original plans were implemented.

In my opinion we're just a single generation away from the hoards of government edumicated idiots coming and striking at the walls of my home demanding whatever the imperial Federal Government of the By-God United States of 'merica hasn't managed to legislate out of my possession...

..if we don't act in this next one or two sessions of Congress...

Just like the recent riots in Greece and France show "government workers" and so-called "students" taking to the streets demanding retirement in middle age and "free college education."

This from people having spent half a lifetime sitting on their stupid asses with government promises of prosperity at the financial expense of the "rich" and "achievers" in their society, and others demanding an addition four to six years of "free" government supplied education after dropping out or wasting the resources spent getting them through the first twelve years of edificaton.

In Tennessee and Georgia and Alabama the High School drop out rate is somewhere between 50% and 60%, yet the "students" want more.

I say that there is a good chance that our Republic (not Democracy remember) will untimately fall due to "Wealth Envy"... plain and simple...

and that illness of human origin but promoted by governments and politicians through the ages is an evil, base, deadly sin just like murder and adultery in my book.

Remember the Bible says:

"Thou shalt not covet thy neighobor's house or ass or wife (or Wife's Ass or Lexus or Power tools or 42' Sea Ray Cabin Cruiser)..."

It's just that simple...Dammit...

New Years Day = The "Lint Filter" Of Life?

The Sign Said"Clean Before Each Load"

Just in case you haven't figured it out from reading this blog, I'm not much on "New Years" resolutions.

You see, if you took all of the New Years resolutions I've broken over the past 5 plus decades, piled them up like cord firewood, and then proceeded to burn them in your fireplace, you'd probably be warm all winter--every single winter--for the next half century.

That said, there's still a few things which I think always change for the good every year if you just give life a little effort, and in my book you don't have to wait until New Year's Eve or New Years day to get the positive results.

Now digressing a bit (stay with me here...I have a point), I was just sitting here in front of the computer surrounded by PLC panel projects in my basement shop...Mission Control A.K.A. the International headquarters of PET...when the buzzer went off on our Clothes Dryer in the adjacent laundry area.

I walked over to change over another load of laundry when I had an epiphany I think.

See if you agree.

It occurred to me that it's better to think of New Year's Day not as the day to start filtering the proverbial lint--the bad stuff--out of our lives.

I think that it's better...like a dryer lint filter...to do just a little bit every day, in every load of stuff life gives us...and then at the end of the run...

New Year's Day...

Clean your filter out like I'm doing, and then start over.

Incremental filtration, not tee totaling absolution...

It's much easier and practical..

Right?

I've Been Busy Ringing In The New Year

And Putting The Old Year In A File Cabinet Or The Trash Can...

I suppose that you've noticed that I've been pretty much invisible here on the Internet on and off for the past few weeks.

Don't worry, there's nothing wrong really (unlike a couple of previous near month long absences while I was preoccupied laying in a hospital bed with a half dozen tubes stuck into my body) other than, in addition to celebrating two holidays in 10 days,  I've just had to spend most of my time focused on closing out some old business files and getting new proposals put together.

I also installed a new Blue Ray Surround Sound home theater system which has resulted in a total loss of hearing a couple of times while watching reruns of Lord of the Rings and some other stuff I've missed in surround sound at home in the past.

eeEEEhhhHHHH...what did you say???

Then of course there is the arduous task of finishing the tax year and getting ready for moving forward into the year 2011.

In anticipation of possibly QUADRUPLING our business this year I went out and purchased a program called "Quickbooks" and spent most of a couple of days keying in everything I did last year in order to support tax returns and to get the accounting system up and running for the new year.

Let's just say this...

I'M EXHAUSTED.

I also bought a giant new bookcase for my office and spent a bunch of time putting things into three ring binders, boxing stuff up in cardboard storage boxes, and stuffing things into empty spaces in the three file cabinets I look at every day.

I probably threw away 100 pounds of magazines and old mail and just miscellaneous paper crap which was laying in various piles in the floor or on my desktop threatening to fall over and suffocate me into a slow death.

So any way, things have settled down a good deal now and there's a good possibility that with our US Congress coming back into session this week I'll have no other recourse but to start launching my opinions back out here onto the Internet here on this blog.

Until then...regards Y'all...
